How the office holder is chosen
The National Assembly elects its Chairman by secret ballot. On 6 April 2026 it set up a vote counting board, voted in a closed session and then adopted a resolution on the election in plenary, according to Đại biểu Nhân dân, the National Assembly's newspaper.1

Trần Thanh Mẫn was first elected Chairman on 20 May 2024 at the 7th session of the 15th National Assembly. He was re-elected Chairman for the 16th National Assembly on 6 April 2026 and took the oath of office.3,1,2
