South Korea
Speaker of the National Assembly, National Assembly (Kuk Hoe)
How the office holder is chosen
Article 48 of the Constitution states that the National Assembly "shall elect one Speaker and two Vice-Speakers". The Speaker is elected in a plenary session for a two year term, so each four year Assembly elects a Speaker for its first half and another for its second half.1,3,2
Term
Each Speaker serves for half of the four year Assembly. Cho Jeong-sik will serve for the second half of the 22nd National Assembly, until May 2028, according to the Korea Times. IPU Parline records each Speaker since 2016 leaving office on 29 May at the end of a two year half term.3,2
